Who Are We
Unity Church of Independence is an intergenerational, inclusive community of
friends. We support families in an atmosphere of peace and love. Our mission
statement is Expressing Spirit, honoring all paths, serving community.
We believe we are all expressions of God's love and as we recognize our
similarities the possibility for peace increases. We practice non-judgmental
positive acceptance of everyone, every situation, every circumstance in our
lives. We use spiritual principles in a practical way to change our life
experiences.
We recognize that our connection to God is what changes, transforms and heals
our lives. As we let go of our past and accept we are loved by God, we can enter
into a place of unlimited possibilities. Prayer is our cornerstone and faith into action our work.
Our Values
Prayer, spiritual growth, continuous learning, compassion, acceptance, diversity, healing, community service, transformation and love.

Our Chaplains
In support of our mission, we are committed to reaching out in prayer, comfort,
and support to members of our congregation. In 2002 Unity of Independence
implemented the Chaplain Program as an extension of our Pastoral Care Team
and Prayer ministries.
A Chaplain is a member of our church who has been trained to support you on
your spiritual journey by creating and holding spiritual space, listening to you,
praying with you, and maintaining the strictest confidentiality.
One of the aspects of our Chaplain Program is the blessed privilege to offer
“caring calls” to all church members on a monthly basis. Chaplains attend Sunday
services and special services to be available afterwards to pray with those who
ask for prayer. No one needs to go away with a heavy heart, ever! Chaplains are also available to hold sacred space at memorials, wakes, funerals,
and to make home, hospital, or nursing home visits.
All Chaplains participate in an annual training and renewal program which culminates
in the dedication and introduction of new Chaplains in June. The program is based on
and affiliated with the Chaplain program as created and taught by Rev.Lei Lanni Burt of Light and Love Ministries in Phoenix, AZ.
